Solomzi Thandubuntu Phenduka born in 1987 was raised in Vosloorus by a single mother in his humble neighborhood matriculating in 2006 with a keen eye to ingress into the music and broadcasting industry and making a name for himself.
His entertainment career journey began with his radio internship at the South African national radio station: YFM where he got his foot through the door of the entertainment industry. He then secured himself a breakfast show slot with MoFlava on a show called Flava in The Morning in 2012 and went on to spend some time in the Big Brother House where he was a finalist in the first-ever season of Big Brother Mzansi. His career however shot up when he joined 5FM on the Fresh at 5 Breakfast Show with DJ Fresh.
Over the years, I've worked on different projects with DJs, Content Creators, Music Producers, Musicians, Music Labels and Radio Stations.
Where his music career is concerned; Phenduka released his debut solo selftitled album ‘Sol Phenduka’ which had elements of tribal house, African-inspired instrumentals, and his unique sound incorporated. Hit songs like Uhuru and Isolomzi, which featured, Camagwini, received critical acclaim and shot him into music recognition.
In November of 2022, Sol celebrates his 2nd year anniversary on the number one podcast show in the country and still going growing in strength – Podcast and Chill with MacG. When he joined the podcast team the webcast was the leading podcast show nationwide, two years later Podcast and Chill rack millions of viewers and a significant amount of exposure after partnering up with DSTV to air their episodes on Channel O.
The broadcaster recently joined Kaya FM on the breakfast show with Dineo Ranaka. Sol then released single Malaika, which remains dear to him as it is a dedication to his eldest daughter. Outside of his music, broadcasting, and social entertainment space exploits Sol Phedunka is an incredibly smart, bubbly funny, quick-witted individual with a fiery passion. A free-spirited guy who loves people,as his middle name suggests. His energy constantly comes through into whatever he does, wherever he goes and whatever he puts out. Look out for the new era of Sol.
It’s hard to say which one comes first or which one I prioritize more between broadcasting and music. I think
